Constitution of The Gambian Association (Hong Kong)
Article I: Name and Purpose
Section 1: Name
The name of this association shall be "The Gambian Association" (hereafter referred to as "the Association").
Section 2: Purpose
The purpose of the Association is to:
- Promote the welfare and integration of Gambian migrants in Hong Kong.
- Foster community spirit and cultural exchange among members.
- Provide support services, including legal, social, and educational assistance.
- Advocate for the rights and interests of Gambian migrants.
Article II: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
Membership shall be open to all Gambians residing in Hong Kong, as well as individuals who support the objectives of the Association with approval from the Executive committee.
Section 2: Membership Types
- Active Members: Individuals who participate in activities and contribute to the Association.
- Honorary Members: Individuals who have provided significant support to the Association, as determined by the Executive Committee.
Section 3: Admission
New members may join by submitting a membership application and paying any applicable dues set by the Executive Committee, a membership card is then issued upon approval.
Section 4: Rights and Responsibilities
Members have the right to:
- Vote in elections.
- Participate in all Association activities.
- Access resources and support.
Members have the responsibility to:
- Abide by the constitution.
- Attend meetings and participate in activities.
- Pay membership dues as required.
Article III: Governance
Section 1: Executive Committee
The Association shall be governed by an Executive Committee consisting of:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Public Relations Officer
- Auditor
- Additional members as deemed necessary
Section 2: Roles and Responsibilities
- President: Presides over meetings, represents the Association, and oversees the execution of its activities.
- Vice President: Assists the President and assumes their duties in their absence.
- Secretary: Maintains records of meetings, manages correspondence, and keeps membership lists.
- Treasurer: Manages the Association’s finances, maintains financial records, and provides financial reports.
- Public Relations Officer: Manages public image, communications, and outreach efforts.
- Auditor: Oversees financial practices and conducts annual audits.
Section 3: Elections
Executive Committee members shall be elected annually by a majority vote of active members.
Section 4: Meetings
The Executive Committee shall meet at least once a month. General meetings for all members shall be held quarterly.
Article IV: Finances
Section 1: Dues
Membership dues shall be determined by the Executive Committee and must be paid monthly.
Section 2: Financial Management
The Treasurer shall manage the Association’s finances and provide financial reports.
Section 3: Audits
The Auditor shall conduct an independent audit of the Association’s finances annually.
Article V: Amendments
Section 1: Proposal
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any active member of the Association.
Section 2: Approval
Proposed amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority of votes cast at a general meeting.
Article VI: Dissolution
Section 1: Procedure
The Association may be dissolved by a two-thirds majority vote of active members present at a general meeting.
Section 2: Assets
In the event of dissolution, any remaining assets shall be donated to a charitable organization supporting migrant rights.
Article VII: Adoption
This constitution shall be adopted upon approval by a two-thirds majority of the founding members present at the inaugural meeting of the Association.
